Last Wednesday, June 22, the Makati Science High School student body and faculty participated in this year’s Metro-wide earthquake drill. Active involvement in quake drills is becoming more relevant and importance due to the increasing frequency in earthquakes. Although nothing has topped the deadliest tremor in Philippines history, one of Makati Science High School’s best traits is their concern for the students and readiness in crisis.

Reaching a time of 4 minutes for the school to be completely evacuated, behavior was not an issue this time around. This quake drill is a total improvement since the Grade 11 students also participated. Everyone behaved calmly and with alertness.

The Senior Red Cross Youth was also on standby for any emergency; and based from their report, everyone left the building safely and no one got injured from the event. A simulation was also held, where two students were asked to stay by the faculty to see how the students will react. The classes had noticed quickly and immediately reported to their assigned teacher.

It took a while for everybody to settle down in the assigned evacuation area, due to the fact that there are more students than usual. All is naught however, Makati Science has shown possibility in improving oneself, and this still grows until now. It was a fully cooperated shake drill with no hitches.

Overall, Makati Science High School’s participation in this year’s Metro-wide earthquake drill was a success. As a first drill for the school year, it became a great start and practice for the student body and faculty.
